How the route works
The deposit is charged to your mobile account, or taken from pay-as-you-go credit, instead of moving through a card or a bank. You give a phone number, confirm a code, and the amount lands immediately. Nothing about your card or account is handed to the casino, which is the reason the route is searched more than any other deposit method in Britain.
What it is not is free. Card and bank deposits at the same casinos are generally free — 90 of the 139 brands in our records publish no fee at all — while the phone route is where nearly every published charge in this market sits.
What it actually costs
Of the 49 brands publishing any fee, 15 name a phone or mobile route in the fee text. The charges fall into two shapes and both are in the table above, quoted exactly as published. 8 state a flat transaction fee — £2.50 per deposit is the common figure, and several apply the same £2.50 on the way out. 7 state a percentage, and the published rates reach 15% of the deposit, sometimes with a separate charge of up to £3 on withdrawals.
Read that against a small deposit and the arithmetic is unkind: 15% of a £5 deposit is 75p gone before a single bet, and a £2.50 flat fee on £5 is half the deposit again. The route is priced for convenience, not for small stakes.
Why the charge is easy to miss
None of this appears on the deposit screen. It lives in the payments section of the terms, in a sentence naming one specific provider, and it is the single most common way a casino advertising a low entry point turns out to cost more than one with a higher floor. That is why each brand page reproduces the fee clause verbatim rather than summarising it — a summary is how "£2.50 per transaction, both directions" becomes "some fees may apply".
The company sets it, not the brand
Sort the fee texts by licensee and the wording repeats almost word for word across sister brands. The same platform, the same payments configuration, the same clause. A comparison of four brands' phone fees can be a comparison of one company with itself — the licences page explains how few companies are behind this market, and the risk tool will collapse a list of casinos into the number of firms it really is.
What we could not verify
Which named providers each brand accepts. Our records hold payment-method counts rather than provider names, so we can tell you which brands publish a charge for the route and not which brands support a specific one. We also cannot confirm the fee texts are current — fee schedules change without notice and ours were read 31st July 2026. Both gaps are stated rather than filled with a guess.

pay by phone bill casino: questions readers ask
8 answers
01 How does paying a casino by phone bill work?
The deposit is charged to your mobile account or taken from pay-as-you-go credit rather than a card. You enter a phone number, confirm a code, and the amount appears on your next bill. No card details are handed over, which is most of the appeal.
02 Do casinos charge for paying by phone bill?
Frequently. Of the 49 brands in our records publishing any fee, 15 attach it to a phone or mobile route. Published rates include flat charges of £2.50 per transaction and percentage charges as high as 15% of the deposit.
03 Is the phone fee charged on withdrawals too?
On several brands, yes. Some fee texts state the same flat charge in both directions, so a £2.50 deposit fee is followed by a £2.50 withdrawal fee. The wording matters, which is why we quote it verbatim on each brand page instead of summarising.
04 Is pay by phone the cheapest way to deposit?
Usually the opposite. 90 of the 139 brands here publish no fee at all on their standard routes, so a card or bank deposit at the same casino is often free where the phone route is not. Convenience is what you are paying for.
05 Can I deposit £1 by phone bill?
The brand's minimum still applies, and no brand in our records sets a floor below £5. A percentage fee also makes small deposits proportionally worse: 15% of £5 is 75p before you have placed a bet. See our page on the £1 minimum deposit for the full picture.
06 Which casinos accept pay by phone?
We do not publish a per-brand list of accepted phone-payment providers, because our records hold payment-method counts rather than named providers. What we can show is which brands publish a charge for the route — that table is above — and that is the part that costs you money.
07 Is paying by phone bill safe?
The mechanism is not the risk: it hands over no card details and caps spending at what your mobile account allows. The considerations are the fee and the fact that a phone bill is a slower, less visible record of spending than a bank statement.
08 Can I set a deposit limit on phone payments?
Yes. Every Gambling Commission licensee must offer deposit limits regardless of payment route, and they apply to the account rather than the method. A limit set at one brand may not follow you to a sister brand on the same licence.
