E-wallets at British casinos, and which one is really commonest

The commonest one is not a wallet

Sort our records by how many British brands accept them and the order is not the one the category name suggests:

• PaysafeCard — 81 brands. A prepaid voucher bought in a shop or online. Not a wallet, and no withdrawal can reach it.
• Neteller — 64. A wallet in the ordinary sense, and routinely excluded from welcome offers.
• Trustly — 60. Open banking rather than a wallet: a direct payment from your bank, with no stored balance of your own.
• Skrill — 57, plus 14 listing Skrill 1-Tap separately.
• Then a long tail: Neosurf 28, Payz 14, MuchBetter 13, Luxon 6.

Three of the five leaders are therefore not wallets at all, which is worth saying plainly because the distinction decides what happens when you win.

A voucher is a one-way instrument

PaysafeCard is the most widely accepted route of its kind in Britain and the least useful for being paid. You can pay in with it; you cannot be paid back to it. So a player who chose it to avoid handing over card or bank details has deferred that step rather than avoided it — the withdrawal will need a card or an account, and it will need verifying, at the moment there is money waiting.

That is not a criticism of the method, which does exactly what a voucher does. It is an argument for reading the withdrawal side before choosing the deposit side, and the reason the tables on this site keep the two apart.

The exclusion that catches most people

Skrill and Neteller are the two routes most often named as non-qualifying in a British welcome offer. The deposit succeeds, the balance appears, the offer does not — and the exclusion was in the bonus terms rather than on the banking page where the choice was made. If a promotion is the reason for depositing, the route has to be checked against the promotion's own terms and not the cashier's.

Why the same names keep appearing

Because the choice is not made per brand. Deposit routes are configured on the platform a licence runs and inherited by everything trading on it. Measured across every pair of brands we hold records for: two brands on the same Gambling Commission account share 75% of their deposit routes at the median, against 36% for two brands on different accounts — and 106 same-licence pairs have lists that are literally identical.

So comparing four casinos' payment options can be comparing one company with itself four times. The licence column in the table above is there for that reason, and the risk tool answers the same question from the other direction.

The brands that take none of them

27 of the 139 brands we hold records for accept no route on this page, and 6 list nothing but cards. The plainest case is Tote, with two deposit routes in total — Visa and Mastercard. A short list is not a worse casino; it is usually an older British business that never needed the alternatives.

What this page will not tell you

What any of these brands pays out to. Our resolved records cover deposit routes only, and we will not infer the withdrawal list from the deposit list, because PaysafeCard proves the two genuinely differ. Nor does the table say anything about fees on a particular route: where a brand publishes a charge it is quoted verbatim on its own page, and the charges in our records cluster on phone billing rather than on wallets.
